Original title: Ófærð
A torso of a man is fished out of the sea close to a small Icelandic town by a fishing boat. The local policeman, Andri Olafsson, assumes it must have been thrown out of a passenger ferry that has just docked in the harbor. Despite the anger of people aboard, lack of cooperation from the captain and pressure from local officials, Olafsson decides to keep the passengers onboard until he will identify the victim and will collect data of all the people on ferry. It is not a great moment for him personally - his ex-wife plans to re-marry and take away their son, the local officials are trying to bring investment in the town, the passengers have their own problems to take care of. While the policemen are gathering the evidence heave snow cuts off the town from the rest of the country. Now Olafsson has to deal with everything on his own, but it could be blessing in disguise - while no one from outside can reach the place, also no one from town can leave, which means that his suspects are all stuck there for few days.
Police investigation story set in cold Icelandic landscapes, all of it kept in an atmosphere similar to "nordic noir". While the setting and the atmosphere are interesting, the characters are intriguing, the first series was a bit uneven - with each episode the story was slightly less interesting. But while the general concept of season 1 was good, the producers unfortunately decided to make two more seasons, which were subpar to say the least. The potential was there, the setting was original, but the final effect was just average.
